About
This is my story: A horse convinces me, a woman old enough to know better, to save him from a very sad existence. I deny it for awhile, tell myself it’s none of my business, and I try not to care so much. I fail at all three. So I figure out a way to buy him, anonymously. I knew bupkiss about horses, I kid you not. Worse yet, I didn’t think there was that much to know.
My husband started it, innocently enough, by giving me a day at a nearby equestrian facility for my birthday. Then, when he realized I was about to save the neglected bag of bones at the end of our road by throwing money at the owner, he simply asked me to write down the story as it unfolded. I’m fortunate to have him and several other friends encouraging me to take on this adventure and follow my heart. I have no grand plan or expectations. I simply want to learn about horses in general, Dodger in detail, and myself in relation to horses. I would like to learn how to ride him in a way that honors his willingness to have me on his back. I would like to gain and experience his respect and trust. My dream would be to ride him on trails, ride him like Stacy Westfall and dance with him in an arena without any connection between us other than our eyes—your typical girly, woo-woo stuff (btw, great book: Dancing with Horses) and similar, but way less showy than in this video.
I’m in up to my heart. I hope you’ll join me. The story starts with the post at the bottom of this page.
