My Inspiration

Many years ago, I was at a fair when I happened to watch an exhibition in which a guy literally danced and ran with his horse at liberty. He was effortlessly floating on, then off, then on and over the horse without saddle, bridle or any means of connection between them except his horse’s desire to follow cues I couldn’t begin to detect. Unfortunately, I have no recollection of who the guy or the horse was, but I remember being awed by it.

Fast forward about 20 years, and I came across a video online that had the same effect on me. Stacy Westfall captivates me with her bareback and bridleless riding ability. Stacy inspires me.

An interesting Czech guy named Honza Blaha used to travel and demo with Parelli. He’s apparently off on his own now. Here’s a sample of his work that makes me just go ahhhhhhhhh all the way through it.

Carolyn Resnick inspires me. Her books, blog, free classes and DVDs are a weekly resource for me.

Alexander Nevzorov is seriously over the top in his approach as a teacher but his results are astounding. I was excited to learn more about his methods but his DVD trailer was so scary-offensive (showing the inhumane things humans have done with horses), I could not get through it. His dogma and ego will sadly only slow down his effectiveness in changing the way humans work with horses. He no longer uses bits, bridles, halters or spurs. Just a cord around the horse’s neck.
